Many of our friends and family living in our local communities serve in the National Guard. At one weekend a month and two weeks a year, it is a good way to further your education and training. But when deployed overseas, most give up higher paying salaries to answer the call to defend our country. This puts a severe burden on the soldier and their family. Many spouses find themselves having to work an extra job just to cover their basic needs. As a member of the community I feel it is our job to help these families so that our soldiers can focus on their mission and not be burdened with these hardships. We need more Guard friendly companies, motivated fund raising events, and help for families who’s soldiers pay the ultimate price for our freedom.
